A Whimsky Works™ Tribute to the Mothers Who Hold the World Together
by Dr. Susan M. Roberts
There are women who do not roar.
They do not announce.
They do not crumble in public view.
They are the quiet warriors.
The ones who get out of bed when their bones ache.
The ones who show up when their heart is tired.
The ones who make a way, even when the way is unclear.
The world may not see them.
But their children do.
There is a whisper inside a mother.
A whisper that says:
“You have to be strong.”
“You have to keep going.”
“They’re counting on you.”
And yes — sometimes —
that whisper becomes heavy.
Sometimes, you stand at the kitchen sink,
water running,
tears falling softly where no one can see,
whispering to no one in particular:
“Does anyone see me?”
“Does anyone hear me?”
“How am I going to make it through this week?”
But then —
a small hand touches yours.
A little face looks up —
eyes full of trust.
Eyes full of love.
Eyes that say:
“It’s going to be okay, Mommy.”
And you whisper back,
voice almost breaking:
“Yes, baby… it is.”
Even when you don’t know how.
Even when the world feels heavy.
Even when you’re holding everything together like glue.
That is courage.
That is love without conditions.
That is motherhood.
🫶 This is for you.
The mother who:
• Studies at night after everyone is asleep
• Works through the headache and the heartache
• Stretches one meal into two
• Smiles while silently breaking
• Leads with grace she didn’t have time to refill
Whether you are a single mother,
a co-parent,
a stepmother,
a grandmother raising babies,
or a mother learning to heal while loving:
You are seen.
You are the reason the world still turns.
You are the quiet whisper that keeps life moving forward.
Your children may not know the weight you carry,
but they know the love you give.
And that love is shaping galaxies inside them.
Breathe.
Today, breathe for the girl you were before the world asked you to be strong.
Breathe for the mother you are right now, trying, learning, rising.
Breathe for the woman you’re still becoming —
the one who deserves gentleness, joy, and rest.
Because one day…
your child will look at you and say:
“My mother taught me what strength sounds like
even when it’s whispered.”
And they will mean it.
You are not alone.
There are thousands of us —
quiet warriors —
whispering our way through long days and longer nights.
And together,
we are changing the world.
Not with loudness.
Not with perfection.
But with love
that refuses to give up.
